We’re excited to share the latest edition of the APCOVE Quarterly Newsletter!
This issue highlights the continued progress and impact of APCOVE Phase II across the Asia-Pacific region. From the launch of field epidemiology projects in Timor-Leste and ongoing trainee research across Southeast Asia to international conference engagement and a significant accreditation milestone for our Teacher and Mentor Training program, this edition showcases the dedication and achievements of our consortium partners, educators, mentors, trainees, and alumni. Together, these accomplishments continue to strengthen veterinary epidemiology and One Health capacity across the region and build momentum for the future.
Highlights from this edition:
- Applied Field Epidemiology Training: Twelve trainees in Timor-Leste have commenced field projects addressing Newcastle disease, brucellosis, pig biosecurity, and slaughterhouse hygiene, while planning advances for new projects in Papua New Guinea.
- Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training: Trainees in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam continue to progress applied research projects tackling priority animal health and zoonotic disease challenges.
- One Health Training: Preparations are underway for intermediate-level training workshops in Indonesia and Vietnam, with APCOVE’s One Health work selected for presentation at the Australasian Epidemiological Association Annual Scientific Meeting.
- Teacher and Mentor Training: APCOVE has completed the co-design of ten eLearning modules and achieved accreditation from the Academy of Medical Educators, recognising the quality and impact of the program.
- GEDSI consultation: APCOVE is developing Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion training resources and inviting feedback to support more inclusive learning and workforce development.
- Outbreak Investigation Workshop: Provincial veterinarians in Cambodia strengthened practical outbreak response skills through hands-on field investigation and biosecurity training.
- Regional and International Engagement: APCOVE contributed to an FAO regional workshop in Bangkok and continues to strengthen partnerships across the veterinary epidemiology and One Health community.
- Celebrating Success: Congratulations to Dr Shumaila Arif on completing her Master of Public Health, APCOVE alumna Elaine Hevoho on her publication success, and A/Prof Navneet Dhand on his appointment to the TEPHINET Steering Committee.
- Impact Story: APCOVE alumnus Ardi Budi Prakoso shares how field epidemiology training has supported his work controlling infectious diseases and advancing One Health outcomes in Indonesia
