Dr. Abrao J. Pereira is a Timorese researcher with training from the Philippines and Australia. He serves as a lecturer at the Animal Health Department of the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL). Dr. Pereira is keen on collaborating with international partners to utilize veterinary epidemiology for addressing veterinary issues and their socio-economic and public health impacts in Timor-Leste.
With nearly 10 years of experience in the veterinary sector, Dr. Pereira has worked with various institutions in Timor-Leste, including the Timorese Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Menzies School of Health Research. His involvement extends to animal health and One Health research and capacity-building projects, primarily through international collaborations. He currently holds the position of Secretary General of the Timor-Leste Veterinary Medical Association.
In addition, Dr. Pereira is the founder of JOVET, a youth organization dedicated to veterinary-related community service and capacity-building programs for youth trained in the veterinary field in Timor-Leste. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Benguet State University in the Philippines and completed his master’s degree at the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2018 through Australia Awards Scholarships.
